Health and Safety Policy

ELC Services is dedicated to executing passive fire protection activities safely, competently, and in full compliance with UK legislation and recognised third-party certification schemes, such as the Fire Industry Association Registration Scheme (FIRAS), the International Fire Code (IFC), and BM TRADA.

Our goal is to ensure that every fire-stopping and compartmentation task is completed in a manner that safeguards people, property, and long-term building integrity.

Commitment to Standards and Compliance
We operate in accordance with:
• The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
• The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
• Building Regulations (Approved Document B)
• Manufacturer installation instructions
• Requirements established by relevant third-party fire-protection certification bodies

We ensure our operations meet or exceed the competency, record-keeping, and installation standards mandated by passive fire-protection accreditation schemes.

    Responsibilities of Management
    Management at ELC Services will:
    • Lead on health and safety matters and provide adequate resources to maintain compliance.
    • Ensure appropriate risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are prepared for all activities.
    • Provide training aligned with recognised competency schemes, including product-specific and installation-specific instruction.
    • Maintain accurate installation records, photographic evidence, and system documentation as required by FIRAS/IFC/BM TRADA standards.
    • Investigate incidents, hazards, and non-conformities and implement corrective actions.

    Responsibilities of Employees
All employees and operatives are required to:
    • Follow RAMS, site rules, and all safety procedures without exception.
    • Conduct installations strictly in accordance with manufacturer guidance and approved certification details.
•Use equipment and PPE correctly and report defects or hazards immediately.
    • Complete installation records, labels, and sign-off documentation accurately and promptly.
    • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to minimise risks associated with passive fire protection activities.

    Subcontractors and Competence
Subcontractors working on behalf of ELC Services must:
    • Demonstrate appropriate competence and relevant fire-protection training.
    • Comply with our safety procedures and provide their own RAMS where necessary.
    • Follow certification-scheme requirements for recording, labelling, and installing fire-protection systems.

Safe Working Practices in Passive Fire Protection
Our work includes fire-stopping, penetration sealing, fire-rated barriers, cavity barriers, and compartmentation systems. To ensure safe and compliant installations:
    • All products are installed to certified detail and checked for suitability before use.
    • Tools and equipment are inspected, maintained, and used safely.
    • Hazardous materials, resins, and sealants are managed responsibly and in accordance with COSHH requirements.
    • Work areas are controlled and kept tidy to prevent slips, trips, fire hazards, and installation errors.

    Training, Competence, and Record-Keeping
We maintain a structured training program to keep our workforce competent, including:
    • Accredited passive fire-protection training
    • Toolbox talks and site inductions
    • Product-specific installation guidance
    • Regular updates on legislation and certification-scheme requirements

All installation records, system certificates, evidence, and logs are maintained in line with FIRAS/IFC/BM TRADA documentation standards.

    Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
This policy is reviewed annually or following significant changes in legislation, certification-scheme requirements, company structure, or incident outcomes.

We conduct inspections, internal audits, and quality checks to ensure compliance and to support continuous improvement.
