Managers of a  15-bed care home in Brentwood, Essex asked us to carry out a fire risk assessment. We found common issues: wedged-open fire doors, limited staff training, and cluttered escape routes. Many residents had limited mobility, increasing evacuation time. We recommended fitting hold-open fire doors with automatic closers, regular fire drills tailored to staff shifts, and improved housekeeping to keep corridors clear. We also advised installing additional visual alarms and enhancing staff fire safety training to protect vulnerable residents.
